 Cape Jaffa 30th Anniversary celebrations
The Cape Jaffa Lighthouse celebrated in style 30 years since its reconstruction at Kingston SE, with a few hundred people present to mark the occasion and watch the light being switched on again.

  Looking after our lights
Brisbane company Australian Maritime Systems has won a second major contract with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to continue providing equipment and services to maintain lighthouses and radars.
  Lighthouse vandals face tough jail terms
Vandals face 10 years in jail for damage to lighthouses or other crucial navigation aids under tough new maritime laws aimed at preventing a "shipping catastrophe". The maximum penalty of a $220 fine has been dramatically increased by the Federal Government because it was not seen as a deterrent.
  Maatsuyker Island solar powered
The Tasmanian State Government will spend $103,572 to reduce greenhouse emissions at Maatsuyker Island by installing renewable energy equipment.
  Telstra under fire over lighthouse plan handling
The federal Member for Forrest, Geoff Prosser, has criticised Telstra for a lack of transparency in its efforts to install a mobile phone transmitter on the Bunbury lighthouse site.

  Weather station safety fears at Maatsuyker Island
A Bruny Island weather observer is concerned for the safety of mariners and pilots in Tasmania's southwest, after the Maatsuyker Island Lighthouse observation post was left unstaffed due to a medical emergency.

 International Lighthouse Conference
An International Lighthouse Conference is being held from 1-4 June 2006 in Ontario, Canada. The theme is "Capturing the Past and Securing the Future". The conference includes lectures, films, lighthouse tours and special performances.

 Beacons By The Sea : Stories of Australian Lighthouses Exhibition
The Beacons By The Sea touring exhibition presented by the National Archives of Australia is continuing its show at the Queensland Maritime Museum in Brisbane until 12 March 2006.
