Lunchtime curator talk & viewing: Macquarie’s Light
Tuesday 17 August | 12.00 pm to 1.30 pm
Join curator Peter Gesner for an introductory talk and guided tour of this new exhibition. The first Macquarie Lighthouse was completed in 1818. Designed by convict architect Francis Greenway under instructions from then Governor of New South Wales, Lachlan Macquarie, the soft sandstone deteriorated rapidly and by 1878 the structure needed replacement. The current lighthouse opened in 1883. Designed in neoclassical style by James Barnet, it is similar to the original tower, but built in stronger materials.

The Keeper - A Gothic Tale of Light and Dark
Friday 20 and Saturday 21 August | 12.00pm to 1.00pm
See this special theatrical performance as part of International Lighthouse Day. Silent guardians of Australia's coastline for almost two centuries, Lighthouse Keepers were essential in protecting the safety of goods, passengers and crews on the ships that circled our land. The Keeper transports us into a strange world, where everyday objects take on a life of their own, a wry humour casts light on the tale, and songs can release a trapped soul.
Free for ANMM Members and Volunteers and those with any paid museum ticket on the day. General $5. Read More
